Fundada en 1931 como la Sociedad Harvey Cushing, la American Association of Neurological Surgeons (AANS), es una asociación científica y educativa con más de 8.000 miembros en todo el mundo.

La AANS se dedica al avance de la especialidad de neurocirugía con el fin de proporcionar la más alta calidad de la atención de neurocirugía al público.

AANS Neurosurgeon: The official socioeconomic publication of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, AANS Neurosurgeon (formerly the AANS Bulletin) features information and analysis for contemporary neurosurgical practice. AANS Neurosurgeonfocuses on issues related to legislation, workforce and practice management as they affect the specialty of neurosurgery.

Journal of Neurosurgery AANS scientific journals are celebrated for their authoritative clinical articles, cutting-edge laboratory research papers, interesting case reports, expert technical notes, and more! Members are eligible to enjoy four journals with their membership: Journal of Neurosurgery; Journal of Neurosurgery: Spine; Journal of Neurosurgery: Pediatrics; and Neurosurgical Focus (NSF), the online rapid-publication. NSF offers CME with each issue.

“Cambio de cultura para promover la seguridad del paciente” sirvió como el tema de la 81 ª Reunión Anual de la Asociación Americana de Cirujanos Neurológicos

Para mejorar los resultados para los pacientes y prevenir errores quirúrgicos evitables, los neurocirujanos tienen que cambiar la cultura que existe actualmente en la sala de operaciones para que las preocupaciones de seguridad sean de la máxima importancia y que cada miembro del equipo tenga un sentido personal de la responsabilidad. Hacer esto implica la implementación y la aplicación constante de las estrategias basadas en sistemas que garanticen un nivel adecuado de garantías, la mejora de la comunicación con todos los miembros del equipo de atención y el desmantelamiento de los gradientes de autoridad, y el mantenimiento de una fuerza de trabajo bien entrenada y bien descansada 1).
