El primer stent diseñado para el tratamiento de los aneurismas fue el stent Neuroform, que recibió su aprobación FDA a finales del 2002 (Fiorella y col., 2005).
El tratamiento endovascular de los aneurismas de cuello ancho es técnicamente difícil y conduce a resultados menos favorables a largo plazo.
Es un stent autoexpandible de micro nitinol
De 18 pacientes, la tasa de oclusión fue del 95% en ocho pacientes y 100% en ocho pacientes. Los dos fallos fueron por razones anatómicas.
Las principales ventajas de este dispositivo son su propiedad de auto-expansión y muy alta flexibilidad (Henkes y col., 2011).

En los aneurismas de cuello ancho, evita la hemorragia y ofrece una alta tasa de oclusión del aneurisma a largo plazo (Santillan y col., 2011).
El Neuroform EZ (Boston Scientific, Fremont, CA, EE.UU.) ofrece mejor control y menos pasos (Mangubat y col., 2012).
Se ha publicado un caso de autoexpansión tardío (Lee y col., 2012).
